Fenêtre sur le Chaos
for Orchestra (2024)
The musical material of the symphony Fenêtre sur le Chaos originated from the interference between pairs of sound objects (objets-sonores) and the resulting frequency content when they modulate with each other. Chaos is not synonymous with noise; it represents not the absence of order but rather an unpredictable order or a predictable disorder. Love and death fully submit to these principles. The tremendous forces that emerge when approaching or crossing the thresholds of love or death have driven the creation of this work. Chaotic systems are inherently fragile, leading to unexpected musical territories as the piece evolves. Despite this fragility, a fixed point of reference—a gravitational center—acts always as a Lorenz attractor, maintaining the musical particles that form the cosmos of this sonic journey.
“In all chaos there is a cosmos, in all disorder a secret order” – Carl Jung

Paragraph/Parenthesis
for orchestra (2011)
The orchestral piece Paragraph/Parenthesis was composed after the poem “since feeling is first…” by e.e.cummings. A special set of software tools developed in order to compute and organize the stream of data that constitute the piece. The fundamental idea that underlies the structure of the piece is based on the construction of multi-leveled isorhythmic talea that drive various frequency aggregates. Since this parametric system was a very sensitive one, a large number of experiments were performed in order for the final mate- rial to be selected.
The premiere of the piece took place at Metz, France by Lorraine Symphony Orchestra in July 2001 under the direction of Jacques Mercier.
since feeling is first

who pays any attention
to the syntax of things
will never wholly kiss you;
wholly to be a fool
while Spring is in the world
my blood approves,
and kisses are a better fate
than wisdom
lady i swear by all flowers. Don’t cry
–the best gesture of my brain is less than
your eyelids’ flutter which says
we are for each other: then
laugh, leaning back in my arms
for life’s not a paragraph
And death i think is no parenthesis
